PlanetMySQL Blog: Performance schema, overhead tuning
Marc Alff

One of the most important question users ask before deciding to use the performance schema is: what is the overhead? The underlying concern of course is to make sure deploying the performance schema does not negatively impact production. The question is simple, and yet the answer is not so simple, as it depends on so many things.

PlanetMySQL Blog: Automatically restarting MySQL slaves the easy way
Anders Karlsson

MySQL Replication is something that is used by many, many MySQL users, and here at Recorded Future we are no exception. In our case, the slaves are used for different purposes, and as we develop our system so much and so fast, sometimes things happen which could have been avoided.

PlanetMySQL Blog: Finding and killing long running InnoDB transactions with Events
Mark Leith

I've seen a number of solutions for finding long running transactions or sessions within InnoDB/MySQL now. Every single one of them has been implemented as a script that is either invoked manually, or via some cron job, that then connects and tries to find, and possibly diagnose or kill, transactions that break some "long running" threshold. We also have a rule in MySQL Enterprise Monitor that flags this for further inspection.

PlanetMySQL Blog: Better than linear scaling is possible
Mikael Ronstrom

As part of my research for my Ph.D. thesis, I spent a lot of time understanding the impact of CPU caches on the performance of a DBMS. I concluded that in a parallel data server it is actually possible to get better than linear scaling in certain workloads.
